Saks Fifth Avenue - The Galleria

A $250 million transformation of Texas' largest shopping center

Built to meet the growing demand for luxury retail in Houston, The Galleria was designed to elevate the city's shopping landscape, attract high-end brands, and provide residents and visitors with a world-class, curated retail experience. The goal was to create a destination that would compete on a national and global level, supporting Houston's position as a vibrant, cosmopolitan city.

In 2017, the Galleria III wing was redeveloped with a brand new, state-of-the-art 200,000-square-foot Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store. The renovation, part of a $250 million transformation of The Galleria's luxury wing, ensures that the iconic mall remains the destination of choice for consumers in the area. The project also added 110,000 square feet of new retail space for 35 luxury retailers and a 14,000-square-foot free-standing retail building on Westheimer Road.

Validating structural integrity at every stage

Saks Fifth Avenue is a flagship anchor in Houston's premier retail destination — built to meet exacting standards for a heavily trafficked, upscale commercial environment within one of the city's most prominent and heavily visited commercial centers. ATL provided construction materials testing services throughout the project and validated key structural components, contributing to long-term durability and safety. We verified structural integrity at every stage — from foundations and elevated slabs to steel frame connections.

What made this project uniquely challenging: The Galleria never closed. Our team worked around the mall's operational schedule, coordinating testing activities to minimize disruption. Special attention was given to concrete testing, as the structure's proximity to the Galleria's existing infrastructure required careful management.

High-profile projects in established retail corridors like this one require a testing partner who understands that precision, quality, and pace are non-negotiable. When the stakes are this high — financially, reputationally, and publicly — ATL is your trusted partner.
