Northside High School Area Drainage & Paving Improvements

A neighborhood built on nearly a century of history — and infrastructure that finally matches its resilience.

In one of Houston's most historic and culturally rich neighborhoods, the area surrounding Northside High School has long served as a cornerstone of community life. Established in 1926, Northside High School stands as one of the city's oldest public schools, anchoring generations of families and shaping the identity of the Near Northside neighborhood. Over time, however, the surrounding infrastructure — drainage systems, sanitary lines, waterlines, and pavement — has faced increasing strain from age, growth, and repeated storm impacts.

This project was initiated to address those challenges through a coordinated effort to improve infrastructure along key neighborhood streets, including Fulton, Quitman, Hardy, and McKee, with outfall improvements tied to Little White Oak Bayou. The goal was not only to upgrade aging systems, but to strengthen the reliability of the streets and utilities, ensuring safer access, improved drainage, and dependable services for the surrounding community.

Integrated geotechnical & environmental investigation

ATL provided both geotechnical and environmental investigations, supporting the evaluation of multiple alignments for proposed improvements through a complex, fully developed urban setting near a century-old school. Our role was to understand what was happening beneath the surface before a single shovel broke ground in one of Houston's most resilient communities.
