Transforming rural corridors into resilient connectors
Driven by one of the fastest population growth rates in the Greater Houston region, Fort Bend County launched its Mobility Bond Program to transform rural and underdeveloped corridors into safe, connected, and resilient transportation networks. Roads like Rogers Road, Hunt Road, Band Road, and Ricefield Road — once narrow, lightly traveled routes serving agricultural land and scattered communities — have rapidly become critical connectors for expanding neighborhoods, schools, and commercial development.
These roadway projects were funded through the county's voter-approved mobility bond program aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and connectivity across Fort Bend County's rapidly growing communities. The projects aim to modernize infrastructure to meet current and future demand — expanding roadway capacity, improving drainage, and introducing bridges, detention systems, and outfall structures designed to manage both traffic and stormwater more effectively. Unlike urban corridors, these projects present the complexities of transitioning land, where natural ground conditions had not previously been engineered to support heavy traffic loads or new structural elements.
