Sam Houston Tollway - Beltway 8

The loop that holds Houston together

Beltway 8 — the Sam Houston Tollway — is the loop that holds Houston together. Nearly 88 miles of circumferential corridor connecting the city's residential neighborhoods, commercial centers, and industrial districts to every major highway in the region. Built in phases over decades as Houston grew outward, it has become one of the most heavily traveled transportation arteries in the country — and one of the most essential to the way this city moves, works, and grows.

Associated Testing Laboratories was part of the construction team for the Harris County Toll Road Authority's Beltway 8 program, providing construction materials testing across multiple active segments simultaneously.

On the ground, every day, across live lanes

Being part of the Beltway 8 program meant being on the ground — every day — testing the soils and embankments being placed, verifying asphalt mix quality before it went down, and inspecting the concrete in the bridge structures, retaining walls, bent caps, and deck slabs being built overhead.

What makes a project like this different is the pace; a toll road doesn't pause. Traffic keeps moving while construction happens in phases around it. Our team worked within live lane configurations, coordinating every testing activity around active traffic control plans — and delivering same-day results so the construction management team could keep moving without waiting on material decisions.

Our consistent track record of timely, accurate reporting on this high-volume transportation corridor reinforces Associated Testing Laboratories' reputation as a trusted partner on large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the Greater Houston region.
